The Way It Is
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
This week’s poem is truly inspiring but most especially for those who need to be reminded of themselves. They say a true friend knows the song of your heart and sings it back to you when you forgot. The poem speaks about a “thread”. This thread is your purpose in life. It’s the thing that gives you joy to do, so much joy in fact that you would do it for free if all your other expenses were taken care of by other means. This poem hints at the secret to life, which is “Do what you love to do, and get paid for it. ” Now think about it. If you are doing what you love to do then you’re not really working-your just doing what you love to do. This is the thread that “doesn’t change.” People my wonder but you don’t need to wonder because your emotions tell you that you’re on the right track. The idea is that who you are will always be you and has always been you. For example, I recently had a friend tell me he left his job on wall street to become a teacher. I told him that didn’t surprise me. You were always a teacher. When we were on the playgrounds you would be teaching the younger children things while I was playing basketball. The point is that each string in your life is woven together, and when you pull that string you create your thread. It doesn’t matter if people don’t approve. The poem says “it is hard for others to see.” Maybe you want to be a rapper or a singer or a photographer, but no one else in your life approves. Don’t listen to them, for they can’t see your thread. You should spend all your time working hard on your craft and “while you hold it you can’t get lost.”
Life hurts. It’s not fair; However, staying true to your thread will help you when the inevitable pains of life come. “Tragedies happen” however you must never “ever let go of the thread.”
Love deep, Eat well, and stay Excited about your life,
